The Haywood Chamber of Commerce is seeking the next President of the Chamber, who should ideally be a community-oriented professional with leadership experience to provide clear direction, collaboration and strategic planning to the Chamber and its members.
The person should be well organized and have a good understanding of governmental/non-governmental, and for-profit/non-profit organizations with knowledge of business and economic development issues.
Haywood County is nestled in the mountains of Great Smoky Mountain National Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. A place of unparalleled quality of life with world-class outdoors offerings, award-winning public schools, top-notch healthcare facilities, several nearby colleges and universities, restaurants, breweries, music, theater, galleries and art. Our economy is healthy and multi-faceted and includes a booming tourism sector, manufacturing, and agriculture. We are attracting young professionals, affluent retirees, and the county population is expected to have healthy growth over the next decade.
The position is responsible for overseeing and managing day to day operations of the Chamber, including membership development, advocacy, community engagement, financial management, and strategic planning. The President is the primary spokesperson and leader of the organization, representing the interests of the business community to various stakeholders.
Duties and Responsibilities
Leadership and Strategic Planning
Develop and implement a strategic plan to advance the Chamber’s mission and objectives.
Provide visionary leadership to the Board of Directors and staff.
Visionary thinking and strategic planning capabilities
Advocacy and Public Policy
Advocate on behalf of the local business community to government bodies, legislators, and other organizations.
Monitor and influence legislation and policies that impact local business.
Partner with Haywood County and other stakeholders to assist with the recruitment and retention of existing industry, lead or assist with workforce development initiatives, and create a strategy to incentivize business creation, growth, and stability. Will serve on Haywood Advancement Foundation and other boards as needed.
Membership Development and Retention
Recruit and retain Chamber members.
Develop programs and initiatives to provide value and support to members.
Manage the Chamber’s budget and financial operations.
Seek and secure funding, grants, and sponsorship to support Chamber activities.
Build strong relationships with local businesses, government agencies, educational institutions, and community organizations.
Building and maintaining relationships with diverse stakeholders.
Promote Chamber events and activities to the community.
Events and Programs
Plan ribbon cuttings, grand openings etc.
Plan, organize, and lead various events, seminars, and programs to benefit members and the community.
Coordinate business networking events.
Public Relations and Communications
Serve as the public face of the Chamber, engaging with the media and the public.
Oversee the Chamber’s marketing, communications, and social media efforts.
Board and Committee Management
Work closely with the Board of Directors and Chamber committees.
Work with Board Chair to develop agenda for board meetings.
Shall be responsible for the implementation of the directives and initiatives as identified by the Board of Directors
Provide support and guidance to committees in achieving their goals.
Recruit, train, and manage Chamber staff.
Complete and review employee performance
Foster a positive and collaborative work environment.
After business hours and over-night travel as needed.
Perform other tasks and duties as may be assigned by the Board of Directors.

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience required.
3 years of experience as a successful leader in a chamber of commerce, tourism development, non-profit or other related business association.
Outstanding public speaking, written and presentation skills.
Proficiency in basic computer applications (Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint)
