ABOUT THE POSITION: The Grand Island Area Chamber of Commerce President is responsible for providing leadership and management that ensures advancement of the Chamber’s mission through exemplary services and operations as a partnership of businesspeople working to advocate for and advance the community’s economy. The President is responsible for promoting effective services and operations as it relates to the mission and framework established in partnership with the Chamber’s Board of Directors and Board Executive Committee.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE WILL...
Have a broad knowledge and understanding of Chamber operations.
Have a steadfast approach to upholding organizational values and a respect for standards and procedures.
Have experience in working with boards of directors.
Have experience with building and managing a high-performing team.
Have experience in developing short- and long-term goals, strategies, and plans for the Chamber’s long-term success.
Be able to demonstrate their ability to develop and manage an annual budget.
Be able to demonstrate how they have represented a previous organization in a positive light via the media and participation in civic and business organizations and groups.
Demonstrate how they have established effective working relationships with relevant local, state, and national organizations.
Demonstrate their experience in advocating a chamber’s value proposition to businesses and community stakeholders.
EXAMPLES OF DUTIES
Manage and administer the day-to-day operation of all Grand Island Chamber of Commerce activities, including Operating, and Foundation, and the financial, physical, and human resources of the organization.
Adhere to and uphold the values of the organization and assure compliance with all federal, state, and local laws, regulations, standards, and procedures.
As an ex officio member of the Board of Directors, attend all meetings of the Board of Directors and, in person or by staff representation, all standing and other committees.
Establish and implement policies and procedures governing the operation of the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce in compliance with the Bylaws, and policies adopted by the Board of Directors.
Develop and recommend to the Board of Directors short-term and long-term goals and an annual budget to accomplish those goals.
Enlist and develop a qualified staff and utilize facilities and equipment that will ensure effective operations and services to achieve the mission.
Represent and promote the Grand Island Chamber of Commerce in the community through participation in organizations and groups and using media.
Develop and implement a strategic plan with the Board of Directors and staff.
Maintain quality program services appropriate to the needs of the business community.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with appropriate local, state, and national organizations.
Lead with vision to the future for change, opportunities, mission, and business development.
Support the Board in the selection, orientation, and development of board members.
Decide and guide a course of action for the organization.
Advocate and promote the organization to stakeholders.
Steward and develop financial resources in a manner that ensures fiscal stability and providing for the growth and enhancement of programs and operations.
Maintain membership in good standing with the US Chamber of Commerce and adhere to high ethical standards.
Provide with the direct reports the leadership and direction of the organization as charged by the Board of Directors.
Immediately report any wrongdoing, unethical or improper conduct, fraud, fiscal mismanagement, or misappropriation of funds, etc.
Perform other job duties as directed by the Board of Directors.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or related field; and six years relevant management experience, including a minimum of four years senior management experience.
A relevant Masters’ degree may be substituted for two years of management experience.
