West Orange Chamber of Commerce President and CEO
The President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the organization is appointed by and accountable to the Board of Directors to provide executive leadership to the West Orange Chamber of Commerce. The President/CEO reports directly to the Chair of the Board and the Board of Directors and works with all members of the Chamber team to ensure committee, department and organizational goals are achieved. This position serves as a registered agent and ex-officio member of all committees.
The CEO shall direct the Chamber in accordance with the policies, procedures, and bylaws of the Chamber. The CEO shall manage all resources (including staff and volunteer efforts) of the Chamber to guide efforts of the strategic/tactical plan and mission, as well as to advance the growth and prosperity of all business members.
This position is accountable for directing all operations of the WOCC, and the continued success and profitability of the Chamber. The CEO is responsible for a full range of activities, including short- and long-range strategic planning; organizational structure and procedures; fiduciary responsibilities; creation and coordination of programs/events; maintenance and growth of the membership; management, training, and development of employees; interpretation of policy; and demonstration of leadership through involvement and participation.
Personnel Management Responsibilities
- Coordinate the activities of the chamber staff, committees, and volunteers with the Executive Committee and Board of Directors, including recruiting, staffing, educating, training, supervision, and regular performance reviews. When necessary, initiate appropriate disciplinary action with employees, up to and including termination.
- Manage all aspects of human resources and payroll operations, including compensation, salary and benefits administration, policy development, and year-end incentive bonus distributions. Benefits administration may include healthcare insurance, ST/LT Disability, Life AD & D, Workers’ compensation, retirement plan funding, and sick/vacation days, among others.
- Outline and direct the daily operations for each department in the Chamber. Review and evaluate the performance of the departments and establish or approve department goals.
- Coach and develop the internal leadership team, providing professional development and team-building opportunities where appropriate, to attain consistent, highly effective performance.
- Develop and implement continuous improvement initiatives, better business practices, and an organizational structure that will optimize performance and operating results.
Financial Management Responsibilities
- Oversee and manage fiscal resources of the organization, working with the Executive Committee for approval by the Board. Prepare the annual budget that delineates revenues and expenses with a projected net profit. Provide monthly forecast updates to the Board and adapt to meet financial and membership targets as the year progresses.
- Manage the daily budget, confirming that costs are within budget guidelines and all financial records comply with established laws. Ensure adequate records of all transactions and correspondence are maintained for review by auditors, the Board, or other officials or agencies.
- Lead, direct, and develop the Chamber’s fundraising strategies and capital campaigns.
- Manage and review membership dues, accounts payable and receivable, and other revenues. Ensure proper follow-up on past-dues and proper handling of receivables.
- Oversee development of income statement, monitor trends, and, in conjunction with the Executive Committee which acts as the Finance Committee, make business adjustments where necessary to ensure maximum profitability of the Chamber.
Membership, Marketing, and Chamber Event Responsibilities
- Develop sales goals in conjunction with team members for all committees and departments. Assist in retention of Chamber members to include plan of involvement contacts and prior to renewal phone calls. Continually monitor progress to ensure goals are met and/or exceeded.
- Recruit new members and retain existing members with appropriate personnel to ensure adequate membership services; monitor that all new member and retention member goals are met.
- Update all marketing materials and collateral to increase membership or provide benefit to membership and local community at large.
- Serve as Chamber community relations representative by regularly attending community functions and gatherings. Participate in Chamber activities to promote and enhance the image and relationship for the Chamber with all groups and parties in the community. Assess events regularly, and prioritize the implementation of events according to strategic plan.
- Act as executive liaison between businesses, government, and community organizations to promote Chamber purpose and objectives, as well as increase membership/renewals and a positive community image. Act as primary contact for key accounts and government relations, when necessary, and represent the chamber at government or business meetings, offering a professional presentation style and approach.
Operational Responsibilities
- Establish and implement an annual business/tactical plan consistent with achieving strategic goals. Work with the Board of Directors to approve and implement the plan while maintaining the corporate mission and vision to set strategic direction and ensure objectives are met.
- Create and modify, as necessary, short and long-range plans for the Chamber, continually monitoring and evaluating the organizational structure to enhance profitability of the organization.
- Respond to all authorized, Chamber-related requests from the Chairman of the Board, Board of Directors, or Executive Committee in a timely basis. Assist in the planning and organization of Board functions and retreats.
- Ensure policies are updated and communicated with members to ensure accountability and compliance.
- Ensure Chamber facilities and equipment are maintained in appropriate condition and updated, as needed.
- Perform other tasks, as assigned.
West Orange Foundation
- Serves as a registered agent and President.
- Oversees all operations and finances of the Foundation to include policy management, marketing, and filing of appropriate IRS documents.
West Orange Political Alliance (WOPA)
- Serve as registered agent and ex-officio, non-voting member and Recording Secretary.
- Oversee all operations and finances of the organization to include policy management, social media, election year interviews.
Experience and Skills
- A minimum of ten years of executive/senior management leadership experience in a non-profit organization, chamber of commerce, hospitality, tourism, association, business, economic development, and/or community development field.
- Strong working knowledge of the Chamber of Commerce industry including, policies, principles, program administration, budget management, strategic planning, and volunteer management; Chamber certification is preferred.
- Results-oriented leader with experience in building consensus, creating beneficial and productive partnerships, and effectively representing the Chamber in various environments and across multiple socioeconomic backgrounds.
- Strong ability to foster teamwork and collaboration between/among Board members, staff, Chamber members, community leaders, elected officials, and strategic committees and organizations.
- Experience with budget development and financial statements; demonstrated ability to analyze organizational goals and project financial performance to ensure maximum profitability.
- Ability to develop and motivate teams to work in a collaborative environment achieving superior levels of performance.
- Innovative and strategic thinker who has experience in developing relevant programs and goals for meaningful change to improve the business environment of the community.
- Demonstrated government advocacy skills, as well as a knowledge and understanding of economic development and political dynamics, including local, regional, and state-level political systems; experience in developing collaborative relationships in these areas.
- Exceptional public speaking, verbal, and written communication skills, as well as relevant media experience.
- Evidence of ability to solicit, fundraise, and secure sponsorship dollars from public and private sectors, as well as membership sales growth utilizing the latest marketing practices.
- Strong ability to foster teamwork and collaboration between/among Board members, staff, Chamber members, community leaders, elected officials and strategic committees and organizations. Extensive knowledge of the West Orange community preferred.
- A bachelor’s degree in a related field from an accredited academic institution, or equivalent professional training and experience.
Additional Requirements
- This position is full-time and required to be onsite primarily at the WOCC office and designated worksites.
- Minimum of 20% travel.
- Must have a valid Florida driver's license and be able to operate a motor vehicle.
- Ability to lift up to fifty (50) pounds and have physical mobility to attend events, meetings, and relevant activities.
