Qualifications

• Strongly preferred bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution or equivalent experience may be considered.
• A minimum of five years of successful chamber leadership and/or ten years of non-profit/association executive management, demonstrating progressively greater responsibility in each position.
• Previous experience managing a like-sized or larger annual budget.
• Demonstrated commitment to continued professional development through the U.S. Chamber’s Institute for Organization Management and/or Certified Chamber Executive (CCE) designation is considered a plus.
• Residency in York County is required, no later than six months from date of employment.

• Engages in advocacy on behalf of businesses, while remaining politically neutral

Planning

• Strategic visionary with extensive and nuanced skills to drive change management, mission fulfillment, and operational outcomes.
• Develops program goals for the Chamber, Board, Councils, committees, partners, etc.
• Maintains a functioning master plan for goals that includes action plans.
• Regularly follows up on and evaluates goal achievement.

Management

• Develops and implemented an appropriate organizational structure.
• Utilizes volunteers and other resources in a manner that achieves the Chamber’s goals.
• Executes Board policy and assignments.
• Develops and implements appropriate human resources and policies and procedures.
• Effectively assigns, develops, leads, and supervises Chamber personnel.

Finances

• Prepares in a timely manner a budget that enables the Chamber to achieve its goals.
• Achieves membership and retention goals that provide an adequate financial base.
• Follows the approved budget, with due consideration to changing circumstances.
• Ensures that the Board and membership are fully informed on the Chamber’s financial status.

Communications                                                                                                                   

• Maintains effective and appropriate communication of Chamber philosophy, goals to members, media, government officials, the business community and public.
• Communicates effectively with Board and membership.
• Ensures that the Board has the information needed to set policy and make decisions.
• Communicates well verbally and in writing.

Relationships

• Possesses and utilizes ability to develop consensus among Board and memberships on councils, task forces, committees, partners, etc.
• Has credibility in the business and larger community and works well with diverse groups.
• Presents an appropriate image to the community.
• Sound understanding of the political landscape for change and collaboration with civic leadership and partner organizations.
