The Greater Northampton Chamber of Commerce is looking for an Executive Director to lead our organization into its second century serving the Northampton community in western Massachusetts.
The Chamber is a dynamic organization led by volunteers and a six-person professional staff, supported by more than 600 businesses and non-profit organizations who share a commitment to strengthen the local economy and contribute to the well-being of our region. We are the organization where business and community connect.
This June, the Chamber is launching a strategic plan to enter our second century with a vision and mission that aligns with the values of our community, supports a thriving economy, and ties community and business to a shared purpose of opportunity and well-being. Our strategic plan challenges us to have greater impact, be a go-to resource for business success, act as a model of civic service, and be a collaborative partner with community organizations that support our commitment to lead change and create opportunity for the benefit of all.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate a track record of accomplishment, above and beyond a baseline of organization management, including the ability to:
Attract, mobilize and lead a motivated, self-directed staff;
Raise resources to support the organization’s goals;
Develop buy-in and commitment to initiatives with big goals and long-term impact;
Communicate a vision that can transcend perceptions, engage participation and attract resources;
Create partnerships to align purpose, work collaboratively and increase impact;
Develop relationships with multiple, diverse constituencies;
Understand changes in the “landscape” and create responsive strategies;
Deliver organizational value through use of technology.
Maintain focus on the big picture, while making progress on strategy, attending to change and executing the details.
The ideal candidate can demonstrate how their abilities to lead, listen, persuade, synthesize, connect, persist, and build trust have been the essential qualities that supported their success.
The ideal candidate can demonstrate a baseline of competencies necessary to successfully lead an organization: relationship building (diplomacy), governance, fundraising, administration, policy, organization development, finance, resource development, community building, change management, program management, communications, marketing and public speaking.
Education and Experience Preferred:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preference for an advanced degree in a relevant field.
Has held a senior executive position for a minimum of 8 years in non-profit, business, community and/or economic development.
Experience working with a Board of Directors and other volunteers.
Experience building consensus with diverse constituencies.
Experience leading an organization through a strategic plan and developing strategic directions that respond to change.
Telecommuting is allowed.
