The Monroe County Chamber of Commerce is seeking an economic developer
with chamber of commerce experience to fill the role of Executive Director. This
role serves as the face of both the economic development and chamber of commerce
programs to business prospects, chamber membership, local citizens, and outside
agencies and allies.
The Executive Director’s primary role is to provide leadership to the Chamber and its
partner organizations in the achievement of community and economic development
goals that result in sustained existing industry, new employment opportunities, per
capita income growth, and expansion of the County’s property tax base.
The Executive Director reports to the Chamber Board of Directors and the Executive
Committee on at least a monthly basis. On an as needed basis, the Executive Director
will also have to coordinate with local elected officials on an as needed basis. To
function effectively, the Executive Director must develop close working relationships
with the Mayors of Aberdeen and Amory, their respective Boards of Aldermen, and the
Monroe County Board of Supervisors.
Key Duties and Responsibilities
Provide leadership to the Chamber and foster collaboration with other community development organizations.
Focus on future and sustainable growth in the areas of workforce education, infrastructure, quality of life, industrial site development, technology access and upgrades, and job training reflective of community needs.
Identify and assess funding opportunities for both economic and community development. Identify opportunities, challenges, and the ability to support organizational growth to ensure the viability of the organization
Build support, both internally and externally, for the Organization. Develop a well-defined strategy for marketing the community to commercial, retail, and industrial prospects. Work with prospect companies to attract their investment and location to our area. Work closely and communicate with the staff and boards of partnering entities. Provide activity status reports to the Board of Directors as requested/necessary.
Identify issues and opportunities relative to existing businesses, their sustainability and expansion, and formulate plans to address them.
Assess the strengths and weaknesses of the community and area economy on an annual basis and develop strategies that will capitalize on the strengths and eliminate or reduce the weaknesses.
Assume an active role in organizations, institutions and activities existing within the community, as well as with any newly formed organization, institutions, or activities. Be a visible and accessible personality within the community.
