The GFMEDC, a non-profit organization, is funded both privately and publicly. Primary-sector, retail, and service-oriented businesses invest in their efforts, and the Cass and Clay County Commissions provide public funding, as well as, the cities of Fargo, West Fargo and Moorhead.
Reports to: Executive Committee

Provide leadership and strategy in furthering the economic development strategies and initiatives for the region.
Lead in the execution of the Priorities for the Next Generation Economy Strategic Plan.
Direct all planning aimed at determining methods to be used in carrying out organization's objectives and implementing policies.
Establish relationships with county, city, state, higher education and regional partners to foster a climate of collaboration, partnership, and growth for the regions economic benefit.
Aggressively promote economic growth in Greater Fargo Moorhead by attracting, retaining, and expanding primary sector businesses.
Lead in the continuation of building partnerships and programs with higher education institutions (North Dakota State University, Minnesota State University-Moorhead, North Dakota State College of Science, Concordia College, Rasmussen College and Minnesota State Community and Technical College) that will increase the expansion and awareness of technical training, higher education, STEM education, and associated career opportunities.
Ensure that the GFMEDC's efforts are properly coordinated with similar undertakings in the region, and establish desirable and effective regional relationships to foster growth, collaboration, and joint efforts, as appropriate.
Lead in the continuation of programs and initiatives that support the region’s entrepreneurial eco-system.
Serve as the organization’s primary external contact and spokesperson, including interaction with the media, community associations, private development entities, and others as necessary and appropriate.
Be accountable to the Executive Committee, Board of Directors, members and investors, and the community at large for delivering consistent efforts and successful outcomes.
Lead by demonstrating personal and professional values in the business affairs of the GFMEDC.
Ensure the effective development, coordination, supervision, and implementation of all programs, activities, and goals as established by the Board of Directors.
Responsible for the maintinating postive financial performance of the organization through accurate and appropriate bookkeeping, record keeping, and budget preparation for the organization and file appropriate tax reports.
Engage, discharge and supervise all employees in accordance with the policy and procedures established by the Executive Committee, Board of Directors and the statutes of the State of North Dakota.
Leadership: Organizing and influencing staff and volunteers to believe in a vision while creating a sense of purpose and direction.
Personal Accountability: Accepting responsibility for personal action and decision making within the GFMEDC.
Decision Making: Analyzing all aspects of a situation to make consistently sound and timely decisions.
Customer Focus: Providing a clear focus for GFMEDC Board and staff to focus on investor and business client needs and expectations.
Interpersonal Skills: Effectively communicate and build rapport with public and private leaders and staff of community development organizations.
Planning and Organizing: Establishing courses of action to ensure that work is completed effectively.

Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree in business, administration, public administration, economic development or related field. Advanced degree or economic development accreditation preferred.
Five to ten years executive-level experience in business, education or regional economic development is required.
In-depth knowledge of the principles and practices of economic development and private sector business practices.
Demonstrated effectiveness as an inspirational leader with strong written and verbal communication skills.
A history of generating respect and support when successfully engaging, partnering and building alliances with a wide range of constituencies and influencers that includes business leaders, economic development partners, elected officials and the media.
Advanced study and/or graduate degree desirable.
