Destination Toledo is a $1.4MM private, nonprofit corporation composed of approximately 350-member organizations and business partners. Destination Toledo seeks to enhance the economy of Lucas County and Greater Toledo, Ohio by promoting the development and marketing of Northwest Ohio as a destination, focusing on convention sales, tourism marketing, and services. The organization is directly responsible for marketing the destination brand through travel and tourism area awareness and knowledge to corporations, groups, and individuals. Destination Toledo actively supports the efforts of area destinations, cultural arts and other attractions, lodging, dining, retail, transportation, conventions and a myriad of other companies that are both directly and indirectly involved in the visitor industry.
From scenic nature and rural communities to superbly livable towns and cities, the Toledo Region offers the highest quality of life at the most reasonable cost of virtually any other place in the nation. The Toledo area boasts the nationally recognized Toledo Zoo and Aquarium, the world-class Toledo Museum of Art and Glass Pavilion, the Toledo Symphony Orchestra, Toledo Opera, Toledo Ballet and theater groups, an abundance of outdoor recreation and sports—including an extensive Metropark system, nature preserves, wildlife refuges and state parks that offer extensive picnic areas, play fields, trails for hiking, running, bicycling, and cross-country skiing, as well as a wide variety of neighborhood and ethnic festivals. Well over one million people visit these attractions on an annual basis. Professional and collegiate athletics include the Toledo Mud Hens and Toledo Walleye (minor league baseball & hockey teams) along with collegiate Division I, II and III sports programs. The area is reinventing itself as a leader in technology, research, alternative energy, automotive, bioscience, agribusiness, logistics and health care.
The majority of Destination Toledo’s $1.4MM budget comes from an occupancy tax on hotel rooms along with financial support from member dues and other in-kind promotional assistance from the membership.
Local meeting and event facilities include the state-of-the-art Huntington Center, an 8,000+ seat multi-purpose arena with private suites, club-level lounge, banquet facility and designation as one of the nation’s first LEED certified professional sports arenas. The Huntington Center is home to the Toledo Walleye and hosts concerts and a variety of special events. Like the Huntington Center, the SeaGate Convention Centre is in downtown Toledo. SeaGate has 19 meeting rooms, 75,000 sq.ft. of column free exhibit space and hosts 500+ events annually including conventions, industry trade shows, and local consumer shows. Both the SeaGate Convention Centre and the Huntington Center are managed by SMG, one of the world’s largest facility management, marketing and development companies.
The CEO reports to the Chair of the Toledo/Lucas County Convention and Visitors Bureau Board of Directors whose members are appointed by the Lucas County Commissioners.
