The Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce, founded in 1969, is a membership driven organization, and is a Nationally Accredited Five Star Chamber. The organization is recognized for its roles in business advocacy, international trade, workforce development and leadership training in the Northern Kentucky area, which is part of the Cincinnati Metropolitan area.
The NKY Chamber is a 501(c) (6) organization with 1,400 members ranking it among the highest in the country on a per-capita basis. The NKY Chamber's mission is to "develop strong businesses and a vibrant economy in Northern Kentucky and its surrounding region, through business advocacy and leadership, resulting in a better quality of life for all."
Northern Kentucky is an integral element of the Cincinnati region with the assets of a 2.1 million+ metropolitan area, all while providing the convenience and affordability of a smaller community. It is a distinct region that offers all the personal amenities of living in the Cincinnati MSA.
The President of the Northern Kentucky Chamber of Commerce ("the Chamber") has responsibility for the overall management of the Chamber to effectively serve its member businesses and support the economic vitality of the entire region. This dynamic, visionary leader is a consensus builder and conceptualizer of progressive initiatives that position the Chamber as leading voice in and for the region- at all levels of government.
KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assuring development and implementation of multi-year strategic plans, and corresponding annual business plans as approved through the Board of Directors.
Manage the advocacy process, develop sound working relationships with elected officials in the region and state, serve as an effective and credible chief spokesperson and be willing to lead on the big issues that are important to members.
Identify regional collaborative opportunities with other organizations that will benefit members and serve as a leader in community initiatives that support the mission and continue the economic growth in the region.
Collaborate with key business members, the Board, community partners, other business organizations, education leaders, the media, and non-profit organization leaders in the community so that the NKY Chamber is seen as being a vitally important partner in the future growth and vision of the Greater Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky region.
Serve as the principal spokesperson for the NKY Chamber, with a goal to enhance the overall brand and image of the business community.
Lead the organization in developing programs and opportunities to assist in providing the region with future leaders. Example: Leadership Northern Kentucky, Regional Youth Leadership and Legacy.
Assist the Board in developing a long range plan to build the appropriate Board to best represent the interests of the membership. This includes board succession planning, position development and long-range candidate identification.
Overseeing all fiscal and operational aspects of the Chamber, including recruitment, retention, and development of professional staff.
Manage and develop the NKY Chamber staff to ensure a well-run, fiscally sound business utilizing management philosophies that attract talented professionals to work for the organization. This includes the development of personnel policies and job descriptions, along with annual reviews.
Lead and manage the development of creative, innovative programs/initiatives designed to attract and retain a growing membership roster and foster business growth among current members.
Ensure that programs and services are continually evaluated for effectiveness and to avoid duplication of programs and services that community partners are better equipped to provide.
IDEAL CANDIDATES' QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
Ten years of executive level leadership in the non-profit, public, or private sectors with a track record of successful growth.
Demonstrated experience in leading staff, collaborating with other senior executives, and driving solutions among groups with non-aligned agendas.
Ability to build strong partnerships with the Board of Directors, members, community partners and elected officials.
Proven management skill with an emphasis on organizational performance, accountability and the ability to affect synergy between a highly motivated staff and the volunteer organization.
Must have the presence, political savvy, public relations and leadership skills necessary to represent not only the NKY Chamber, but the entire region with legislative bodies.
Bachelor's degree in business or related field; advanced degree a plus.
Experience managing a team of 15+ individuals.
