Title: President Report to: Board of Directors Supervises: Vice President of Operations, Tourism Director
Summary of Position: The President serves as the chief paid executive and administrative officer of the Chamber and is responsible for all administrative and management functions of the organization. The Presidents primary responsibilities include direction and management in the design and implementation of the strategic and operating plan of work, formation, approval and management of the annual budget and other funding sources, and interaction with the Board, Chamber members, governmental entities, and the public.
Description of Duties: Strategic & Annual Planning: - Under the discretion of the Board of Directors and based on proper research of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County’s needs, anticipate emerging and long–range opportunities and challenges. - Pro-actively recommend Chamber and community programs to take advantage of opportunities and to overcome challenges. Work with Board and staff on strategic and annual plans.
Chamber Operations: - Responsible for the internal structure of the Chamber to ensure that the organization is effectively managed to function with maximum efficiency in the anticipation, identification, and solution of Chamber / community concerns. Recommend to the Board such changes in structure and procedure as needed. Responsible for preparing meeting agendas, maintaining Board records, carrying out plans and programs of the Board in accordance with established policies, serving as representative of the Board for all contacts with the Chamber staff, initiating programs for consideration by the Board, and advising the Board on all matters under consideration.
Volunteer & Staff Management: - Effectively recruit, motivate and inspire volunteers and staff to creative and fruitful action. - Earn and maintain the respect and confidence of the Chamber Board. Work in concert with Board on key volunteer leader identification and training. Responsible for employment, compensation, development, assignment of duties, supervision, training and leadership of the Chamber staff. Based on Chamber’s Annual Work Plan, assure staff members are prepared to successfully implement Chamber’s programs. - Foster daily working environment that values teamwork and ensures the highest levels of customer service and volunteerism.
Membership & Resource Development: - Oversee activities related to maintaining effective member relations and work with staff and volunteers to expand membership base. Grow Chamber membership to a level that will ensure necessary income for the operation and programs.
Financial Management: - In concert with the Board’s Executive Committee, develop the Chamber budget and relate budget to program goals and maintain responsibility for all expenditures within the framework of the budget. Ensure the preparation of accurate and timely financial statements with detailed information relating to Chamber programs and prospective activities. Present monthly financial statements, prepared by the VP of Operations, to the Board, ensure that financial records (including bed tax) are audited annually and seek maximum staff efficiency in all financial procedures.
Communication: - Serve as the chief spokesperson for the Chamber and communicate the organization’s position on community, public and political issues. - The President represents the Chamber in meetings of local organizations and must constantly strive to develop a better public understanding of the purpose and functions of the Chamber. Maintain communication with members through on-site visits, publications, and emails and in concert with local media.
Community & Economic Development: - Work closely with partner organizations locally, across the state and in the north Atlanta Region (Region 2) including Downtown Development Authority, the Lumpkin County Development Authority and others.
Advocacy: - Represent business interests in the community by playing a key role in advocacy on behalf of the Chamber and in line with Chamber objectives. Maintain strong communication and relationship with public policy leaders including Dahlonega City Council and Mayor, Lumpkin County Commissioners and Chair, state and federal lawmakers and their staff for the purpose of advancing the business agenda in the Dahlonega / Lumpkin County region and the State of Georgia. - Operate with a non-partisan philosophy while maintaining and championing the Chamber’s business advocacy focus and mission.
Event Support: - Assist as needed with Chamber events, including but not limited to Eggs & Issues Breakfast, Annual Meeting, PAGE Star Banquet, Movies Under the Stars, 4th of July Celebration, Firecracker 5k Run, Business Expo, Wedding Expo, Student Block Party, Dahlonega Wine Trail, Six Gap Century Bike Ride & Criterium, Annual Christmas Party, Board Planning Session, and Town Hall Meetings/Candidate Forums
Other Duties: - Perform other tasks and duties as may be assigned from time to time by the Board of Directors.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: - Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in business (preferred) or closely related field - Minimum of 5 years of directly applicable and progressively responsible experience is required - Must be able to lift 25 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally; physical activity required - Strong organizational, time management and priority placement skills - Must be a self-starter, detail orientated, reliable and maintain a professional demeanor - Ability to provide excellent customer service and be a team player - Ability to produce a large quantity of work at high quality - Superior verbal and written communications skills - Ability to function both independently and in a team environment - Working knowledge of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County - Excellent telephone demeanor - Strong people and interpersonal skills - Ability to work flexible hours to include some evening and weekend work - Ability to handle multiple priorities simultaneously - Ability to perform in a fast-paced, work environment - Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite as well as database technology - Valid driver’s license and ownership of vehicle with insurance - Ability to work with minimal supervision
Time Requirements: This position is a salaried, full-time position. Nights and weekends are often required. Occasional overnight travel required.

The Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center works to make the area a better place to live, work and do business. The organization’s functions include managing tourism in the area, commercial recruitment, expansion and facilitation, business startup assistance, business advocacy, governmental affairs, marketing, and community information. The Chamber operates a Convention... & Visitors Bureau along with a community foundation in addition to its traditional chamber activities. The combined budget for these entities is $700,000 with a membership base of 600+. The Chamber’s other revenues are derived from local and county tourism tax and the operation and facilitation of more than 15 annual festivals and fundraisers.
